Q: Is Roller Derby real?
A: Yes! Roller Derby is a real sport and the plays are real as well. The moves or plays are practiced just like in other sports and used when the opportunity arrises.
Q: Is Roller Derby Dangerous?
A: It depends. Derby is a full contact sport, so serious injuries can happen. The most common injuries are bruises and if you decide to play the sport, expect to get many. We do wear pads which provide a lot of protection, so it's extremely important to always wear all of your gear.
Q: How is banked track different than flat track?
A: The obvious answer is that banked track has a banked track. But, because of the banked track, the game is played differently. Banked track is a faster game that is always moving around the track. Jammers often have to sprint or outsmart blockers to get through the pack.
Q: Are there rules for banked track?
A: It depends. Some leagues play anything goes/no rules games. The High Rollers plays with rules and our #1 priority is safety.
Q: What equipment do I need to play?
A: Quad skates with removable toe stops (101A wheels recommended)
Knee Pads
Wrist Guards (weight lifting gloves) & Elbow Pads (soft preferred)
Helmet
Butt Pads (recommended)
